IBM Support

Certain characters are not supported in SQL Data Source configuration on the IBM WebSphere DataPower SOA Appliance.

Troubleshooting

Problem

When configuring SQL Data Source for database type DB2, IMS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle (without Object Support) or Sybase, a user may input any printable character into the fields associated with the object. Although the user is able to apply any character, some characters are not valid within the context of a SQL Data Source Object (DSO).

Environment

The special character field limitation applies to all DataPower hardware models on all firmware levels with the ODBC feature enabled.

This limitation applies to all fields sent to the database from a SQL DSO. This includes the following Object Fields: Comments, Connection User Name, Connection Password, Data Source ID, and any Data Source Configuration Parameters Name or Value

Diagnosing The Problem

The following error message might indicate this problem:

sql critic XXXXXXX 0x818000a6 sql-source (aDataSource): Critical error generating database connection string from <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <SQLDataSource ....

Resolving The Problem

When configuring SQL Data Source for database type DB2, IMS, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle (without Object Support) or Sybase, the following characters are supported:
All printable ASCII characters, except Ampersand (&) and Less-than sign (<)
