APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A non-root user can't issue a remote shell (rsh) command
issued against a host that is resolved via NIS. This
happens
for NIS users and for local users in the same way. Only
root
can successfully rsh to a host from the NIS hosts
database.

Local fix

  • Put an entry for this host into /etc/hosts.

Problem summary

  • When AIX machine is setup to resolve hosts from NIS and not
from DNS or /etc/hosts file, rsh from such machines can not
resolve hosts from NIS database.

Problem conclusion

  • Source code is changed to resolve host from NIS database.
