IV27520: CAN'T BIND IPV6 SOCKET TO PORT WHEN BOUND IPV4 SOCKET EXISTS APPLIES TO AIX 7100-02

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • If there is an IPv4 socket bound to a particular port the
attempt to bind an IPv6 socket to the same port fails
with
"address in use". Binding an IPv4 socket is possible even
when an IPv6 socket exists.

Local fix

  • Bind the IPv6 socket first then the IPv4 socket.

Problem summary

  • If there is an IPV4 socket bound to a port, then the attempt of
ipv6 only socket bind to same port will fail with
"Address in use".

Problem conclusion

  • Code modified to allow two sockets with different
IP versions(V4 & V6 only) to bind to same port.
