Error description

  • If the AIX NFS client has several NFS filesystems to be
    mounted
at the same time (like at boot time, through
    /etc/filesystems)
it is possible that some mount attempts pick ephemeral
    port
for the mountd communication with NFS server. If the NFS
server does not support requests from ephemeral port,
    then
    the request is failed with:

mount: 1831-010 server <server> not responding:
    RPC: 1832-010 Authentication error;
RPC: 1832-026 Client credential too weak
nfsmnthelp: 1831-019 <server>: The file access
    permissions do not
    allow the specified action.

Local fix

  • Complete the NFS mounts after system boots up.

Problem summary

  • AIX attempts to use a reserved port for user-mode
RPC applications whenever possible. In this case,
no reserved ports are available, so a non-reserved
port is used. If the mount daemon on the server
is configured to only accept reserved ports,
as is the case in this NetApp NFS Server, there
is a possibility of the mount failing due to
    weak credentials.

Problem conclusion

  • Closing apar as permanent restriction
    for the above reason

Temporary fix
