Problem
A scheduled client backup fails to start and error messages ANS1029E or ANS1033E are logged.
Symptom
The following errors are logged in the client dsmsched.log file :
08/16/2013 21:53:39 Querying server for next scheduled event.
08/16/2013 21:53:39 Node Name:NODE1
08/16/2013 21:53:39 ANS1029E Communication with the TSM server is lost.
08/16/2013 21:53:39 Will attempt to get schedule from server again in 20 minutes. 08/16/2013 22:13:39 TSM Backup-Archive Client Version x, Release x, Level x.x 08/16/2013 22:13:39 Querying server for next scheduled event.
08/16/2013 22:13:39 Node Name: NODE1
08/16/2013 22:13:39 ANS1029E Communication with the TSM server is lost.
08/16/2013 22:13:39 Will attempt to get schedule from server again in 20 minutes.
Cause
The client's TCPSERVERAddress option value uses a Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) but the client does not have DNS setup or the DNS naming lookup of the TCPServeraddress value fails.
Diagnosing The Problem
A scheduled backup fails to start, but a manual backup runs successful. The TCPserveraddress client option uses an FQDN value. For example :
TCPServeraddress tsm.domain.com
The DNS lookup of the FQDN value fails. For example :
nslookup tsm.domain.com
;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached
Resolving The Problem
Modify the TCPserveraddress client option to use the dotted decimal format IP address of Tivoli Storage Manager Server instead of the FQDN value. For example :.
TCPserveraddress x.x.x.x
Restart the client scheduler or acceptor process for the option change to take effect..
