APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Historically, ps has always printed a space at the
    end of it's output:

    # ps -ef | grep cron | cat -ev
    root 86016 1 0 Oct 19 - 0:04 /usr/sbin/cron $

Starting with 5.3tl12-sp4, this is no longer the case:

    # ps -ef | grep cron | cat -ev
    root 413702 1 0 Sep 13 - 0:12 /usr/sbin/cron$

Local fix

Problem summary

  • PS output is not having a trailing while space.

Problem conclusion

  • env variable (PS_SPACE) introduced to control trailing space in
PS output. Default Behaviour: No trailing space in PS output
We are allowing the default behavior (no trailing space) to be
overridden by setting an environment variable: PS_SPACE=1.
This will allow continuation of a trailing space. however we do
recommend:any scripts expecting this behavior (trailing space)
should be corrected to avoid this dependency

Temporary fix
