IV03039: CHVG -G <VOLUMEGROUP> COMMAND HANGS FOR SVG VOLUMEGROUP APPLIES TO AIX 6100-07

Obtain the fix for this APAR.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• chvg -g <volumegroup> command can hang for an svg
  volumegroup.
  The hang is in the kernel so a system reboot is needed to
  correct.  The has been seen when the MAX PPs per VG size
  is at its maximum value
  of 2097152.
  The lvmt.log will show output similar to the following:

  where application is hanging when trying to do a memory
  copy
  of lvm metadata.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• In rare cases, chvg -g for an SVG VG can hang due to
  incorrect management of malloc'd memory.
  

Problem conclusion

• Correctly copy structures in memory.
