Error description

  • File system corruption seen especially when files are
created and deleted rapidly. The fsck reports:
*** Phase 5 - Check block allocation map
    bmap: /341/417/map bad
    bmap: bn = 630272
w FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
        FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
p FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
        FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
x FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF 7FFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
        FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF
Block allocation map is corrupt (NOT FIXED)
    Block allocation map is corrupt

where wmap and pmap are the same (or close) and have bits
that the xt map does not have. Also, there are no disk
errors on the system at that time for that file system.

Local fix

  • Repair the file system by using the fsck command.

Problem summary

  • fsck reports fs corruption on the test fs after running stress
tests. This can happen if customer has multiple threads
appending to multiple files at the same time and then right
after the append, the files got removed. If timing is correct
the transaction from the append will be unprocessed by the time
j2_remove() get called. And j2_remove() will leave that
    transaction behind.

Problem conclusion

  • After removed, if the file has zero link then merge the
anonymous transaction to the globla transaction block
so the transaction will get processed

Temporary fix
