IT02423: If IPMI is enabled on an FSP, then a duplicate Server MEP is created during basci discovery

APAR status

  • Closed as fixed if next.

Error description

  • If the Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) is
enabled on a Flexible Service Processor (FSP), then a duplicate
Server Managed Endpoint (MEP) is created during basic discovery.
Active Energy Manager (AEM) context menu functions will
incorrectly be displayed as enabled, for this Server MEP.

    Impact:
Customer will see a second server MEP and the capabilities
associated it will not be correct (ie, AEM functions are being
    shown as enabled).

Local fix

  • Workarounds:
    1. After discovery is executed -- Manually remove the server MEP
with the IMPI Remote Service Access Point (RSAP)
    2. Before discovery -- Disable IPMI on the FSP (in order to
prevent the extra MEP from even being created)
    3. Before discovery -- Discover the FSP with a discovery profile
so that only the FSP module is executed (BMC module will not
    execute)
    4. Ignore the "extra" server MEP

Problem summary

  • The Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) discovery module
creates a Server MEP, if the
endpoint has IPMI enabled. IPMI should not be enabled for an FSP
and the Server MEP should not be created.
The original FSP Server MEP behaves correctly and it is not
impacted by the "extra" Server MEP.
