IBM Support

Using the 'Export to Excel' function in IBM i2 iBase results in missing link direction fields

Troubleshooting

Problem

When exporting data from IBM i2 iBase using the 'Export to Excel' functionality, the resulting spreadsheet does not contain information on the direction of any links that have been exported.

Cause

This behaviour is as intended. The 'Export to 'Excel' function does not export link direction data by default.

Resolving The Problem

There are two methods available to include the direction data:

1. Chart the required data to IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook.

- In iBase, right click on the data you wish to export and select 'Add to Chart'.

- In Analyst's Notebook, press F11 to open the List Items view.

- Ensure that the desired columns are currently displayed (these can be configured by click the 'Columns' button.

- Click on the 'Copy' button, and paste the results into an Excel spreadsheet.

2. Use the Export function in iBase, to export the data with link direction.

- In iBase, click on File > Data > Export.

- Select the type of data you wish to export (Entities or Links), and the correct record type.

- Choose a file name, and select the Tab delimiter (this should be the default export option)

- Select the fields you wish to export. Ensure that the <Direction> field is selected.

- Select which query/set you wish to export, and click on Run to generate the exported file. Open the file in Excel to view the results.
