Problem summary

  • The mmfs.log file may contain an entry like this:
"[E] sdrServ: Communication error on socket
    /var/mmfs/mmsysmon/mmsysmonitor.socket,
[err 79] Can not access a needed shared library"

The "Can not access a needed shared library" message is wrong
at this place, because there was a network connection issue.

Problem conclusion

  • Have a correct error message.
Avoid unnecessary debug attempts in the wrong direction because
    of a misleading error message.

    Work Around:
N/A. The reported error code "79" is internally used,
    and means "connection refused".

    Problem trigger:
No recreate procedure available for the reported issue.
The underlying issue was, that GPFS internal codes were not
mapped to Linux system codes. That gave the wrong message
text when printing the corresponding system message text for
    such a code.

    Symptom:
    Error output/message

    Platforms affected:
    ALL Linux OS environments

    Functional Area affected:
    System Health

    Customer Impact:
Has little or no impact on customer operation

    Changed Externals:
    None
