IJ13485: SORT MAY INSERT NEWLINE INTO LONG LINE WHEN LANG IS NOT C APPLIES TO AIX 7200-02

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• If locale is non C/POSIX and any of the lines being
  sorted
  are longer than the default buffer size (20480), newline
  character may be inserted into long line when the sort
  command is run. e.g.
  # LANG=en_US sort -n -r file1 -o file2
  sort: Warning: A newline character was added to the end
  of file file1.

• Under non C locale, sort inserts newline character if line
  length is equal to or greater than the default buffer size(20K)
  

Problem conclusion

• sort reports "0653-652 A line of the input file contains more
  than 20480 characters" if the line length is equal to or
  greater than the default buffer size
