Error description

  • In some situations where hosts having different domain
names belong to the same GPFS cluster, it is possible
for the mmafmctl command to display an incorrect
    hostname.
It is also possible for the mmafmctl command to fail to
recognize the hostname of a gateway node.

For example, these 2 hosts are part of a GPFS cluster:

    node1.dom1.company.com
    node2.dom2.company.com

Some GPFS commands might decide that "company.com"
is the common domain, and then decide to treat node1 as
    "node1.dom1" and node2 as "node2.dom2".

Now, if "node1.dom1" and "node2.dom2" cannot be found
in /etc/hosts, or cannot be resolved in any other way,
this could lead to errors in the mmafmctl command when
it tries to resolve such hostnames and fails.

Local fix

  • The issue can be avoided by adding aliases to /etc/host
that correspond to these truncated hostnames (for example
    node2.dom2).

Problem summary

  • mmafmctl command uses short hostname for the gateway.
This might cause problems if the nodes from different
domains are added to the cluster and short hostname
evaluated by the daemon might not match the actual
    hostname.

Problem conclusion

  • Fixed the code to use fully qualified hostname of the
gateway node for all AFM operations.

    Work around:
Add short hostname to the /etc/hosts file

    Problem trigger:
AFM is used in a cluster with inconsitent or different
    domain names.
