Error description

  • When creating a cluster with the mkcluster command or changing
a cluster with the chcluster command, the commands may fail to
do their intended tasks if duplicate IP addresses are detected.
This could be caused by duplicate cle_ip addresses being
specified on the on the command line or the cluster command
resolving a node to the same IP address more than once. This
can happen if there are duplicate entries in the system's
/etc/hosts file. Output like the following may be seen:

    (0) root @ n1: /
    mkcluster -r hdisk10 -n test -m n1.ibm.com,n2.ibm.com
ERROR: Attribute '1.2.3.4', already in use.
    WARNING: Force continue.
    mkcluster: Could not create cluster.
    Error 0

Problem summary

    Error 0

Problem conclusion

  • Duplicates IP addresses are handled more gracefully and allow
the cluster commands to continue to completion so long as every
node in the cluster has at least one unique IP address.
