APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The TCP parameters "nbc_limit" and "nbc_pseg_limit" do
    not properly recalculate after a DLPAR or firmware
    assisted dump operation completes.

Local fix

  • Using the "no" command line program, set these tunables
    manually after a DLPAR or firmware assisted dump
    operation.

Problem summary

  • DLPAR memory add or remove will change thewall accordingly,
    however nbc_limit and nbc_pseg_limit values are not
    adjusted.

Problem conclusion

  • In case of DLPAR memory add it is not harmful if nbc_limit
    and nbc_pseg_limit_init are not adjusted accordingly as this
    will not cause these values to go beyond their allowed limits.

    However one or more DLPAR memory remove operation can cause
    nbc_limit and nbc_limit_init to exceed their allowed
    limits and cause network memory hog if network
    buffer cache (nbc) is used.
    Allowed limits are.
    0 <= nbc_limit >= thewall/2
    0 <= nbc_pseg_limit_init >= vmker.goodpages*2 (thewall)
    Hence the solution is to adjust nbc_limit and nbc_pseg_limit
    during DLAPR memory remove.
