DataStage clients will not install if the machine name contains special characters.

Troubleshooting


Problem

The client installer will not proceed if it finds a problem with the machine name, although the reported error may not make this clear.

Symptom

The installer will throw an error during the Early Requirements Check along the following:

Description
The system must be able to resolve the host name correctly.

Status
FAILED: Ensure hostname is not set to "localhost" and does not contain _ (underscore) see: <link to WebSphere online documentation>

Resolution for failure
Your hostname is set to "localhost". Check the /etc/hosts (Unix) or %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file and ensure "loclalhost" is mapped to 127.0.0.1, not the networkIP address.
