IV93790: USING CLOUDDEV CAN RESULT IN A DEVRESET DURING SYSTEM REBOOT. APPLIES TO AIX 7100-04

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customers are installing cloud-init and then shutting down to
  capture the image (per PowerVC recommendation).  Only to later
  reboot the capture system and notice that devreset has
  occurred on their system.
  This situation occurs because the ibm,aix-clearODMdata NVRAM
  variable is not being set prior to shutdown.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  variable is not being set prior to shutdown.
  

Problem conclusion

• Update the internal system  command, bootutil, to support the
  setting of the ibm,aix-clearODMdata NVRAM variable.  The
  cloud-init program will use the bootutil command to set the
  NVRAM variable prior to enabling clouddev on the system.
