When the VIOS server has large receive enabled and the VIO client has checksum offload disabled, the throughput is poor. The checksum of the large packets received by the VIO client will be incorrect.
Local fix
Large receive on the VIOS could be disabled or checksum offload could be enabled on the VIO client.
