Error description
************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * Systems running the AIX 7100-03 Technology Level * with devices.pci.df1000f7.com below the 7.1.3.48 level. ************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * I/O can hang during SAN events which cause a change in WWPN * for well-known switch N_Port IDs (for example the switch * nameserver). Events which may cause this to occur include * regular SAN maintenance such as moving cables, rebooting * switches, bouncing switch ports, etc.. It could also happen * if links are dropped briefly, forcing the host-side adapters * to re-login to the fabric. * * In some recent Service Packs, this may manifest as a system * crash, asserting in efc_free_login_tble(). * * The error log will contain a number of FCA_ERR12 errors, * with the error number 0x9E in the first line of the SENSE * DATA, eg: * 0000 0011 0000 009E ... ... * * This only affects VIO Servers and LPARs with physical Fibre * Channel adapters, and affects all IBM FC adapters except * for those with Feature Codes 25xx, 2Exx, and ENxx * * Check for the Feature Code (Card ID Number) * On VIOS with: * $ lsdev -dev fcsX -vpd | grep "Customer Card ID Number" * And on AIX with: * # lscfg -l fcsX -v | grep "Customer Card ID Number" ************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * Install APAR IV88583. * Prior to fix availability, an interim fix is available from * either * ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv88583/ * https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv88583/ * Installation of the ifix requires a reboot. **************************************************************
Local fix
The only way to recover from the hang is to reboot the host. If the problem occurs in a VIO configuration, the VIO server will need to be rebooted. Any NPIV client LPARs mapped to the impacted physical adapter/path will also need to be rebooted.
