Error description
At first boot after a new installation, the SMIT AIX License Agreement screen starts. This requires "ja" (yes) for acceptance, but the underlying lookup in smit.cat results in Ja, so users cannot continue setup since they cannot accept licensing.
Local fix
A) Temporarily change OS Lang to complete install * RECOMMENDED 1. Boot system in maintenance mode # vi /etc/environment 2. Change LANG=de_DE (or DE_DE) to C (POSIX) LANG=C B) Modify Translated Message File * ONLY RECOMMENDED IF USER REQUIRES GERMAN LANGUAGE DURING INSTALL 1. Generate the source from the message file # dspcat -g /usr/lib/nls/msg/de_DE/smit.cat \ > /tmp/de_smit.src 2. Move the file to a saved location # mv /usr/lib/nls/msg/de_DE/smit.cat \ usr/lib/nls/msg/de_DE/smit.cat.orig 3. Replace the translated data type strings # vi /tmp/de_smit.src Change: 21 "Nein" 22 "Ja" To 21 "nein" 22 "ja" ***This should be approximately lines 1069:1070 4. Generate a new message catalogue file # gencat /usr/lib/nls/msg/de_DE/smit.cat \ /tmp/de_smit.src
