IV75031: CSH CAN HANG IF THERE IS NO CONTROLLING TERMINAL APPLIES TO AIX 7100-03 16/02/29 PTF PECHANGE

Error description

  * USERS AFFECTED:
  * Systems running the AIX 7100-03 Technology Level
  * with bos.rte.tty at the 7.1.3.45 level.
  ***************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  * The csh shell can hang when starting if there
  * is no controlling terminal.
  * This has been seen primarily with SAP, as SAP
  * uses csh by default on AIX.  This will cause
  * SAP to hang during startup.
  * Only AIX 6100-09-05 and AIX 7100-03-05 are exposed
  * to this problem.

  * RECOMMENDATION:
  * Install APAR IV75031.
  * Prior to fix availability, an interim fix is available from
  * either
  * ftp://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv75031/
  * https://aix.software.ibm.com/aix/ifixes/iv75031/
  * Installation of the ifix requires a reboot.

Local fix

• For SAP, configure SAP to use ksh instead of csh
  to avoid this issue until the fix can be applied.

Problem conclusion

• The changes to the TIOCPGRP ioctl done in:
  6100-09-05 - IV64838
  7100-03-05 - IV67163
  have been reverted for now.
