Error description
A Basic HyperSwap session may incorrectly ignore freeze triggers for *IEA494I PPRC SUSPENDED messages. It is expected that Basic HyperSwap would count IEA494I as a freeze trigger, which should react per the HyperSwap policy defined in TPC-R or CSM. This should issue a FREEZE ALL if stated in the policy, and then should either RUN or STOP. Note: This problem only affects message *IEA494I with text indicating "PPRC SUSPENDING", "PPRC SUSPENDED" or "PPRC TERMINATED". Under normal circumstances, message IEA494I should be issued without the leading action character (*). It is possible for message automation or some other processing to change the routing or descriptor code to cause the leading action character to be used. KNOWN IMPACT: z/OS HyperSwap may not take action after a PPRC suspension event, causing HyperSwap to remain enabled. VERIFICATION STEPS: - Verify from SYSLOG that all occurrences of IEA494I were issued with an action character/asterisk (*) *IEA494I dddd,TEST,PPRC PAIR SUSPENDED - Verify that HyperSwap was enabled, and verify that HyperSwap managed devices received the IEA494I messages - Verify that no "Run" or "Freeze and Run" processing occurred. There will NOT be the following message: IOSHM0308I PPRC suspension detected for replication session TESTHSWP_H1H2 FreezeAll and Run completed. Reason: 0000
Local fix
BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION: Do not use message automation to change the routing or descriptor codes for IEA494I RECOVERY ACTION: Purge and Reload the HyperSwap configuration, using STOP H1->H2 followed by START H1->H2
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users at HBB7790 and above that use z/OS * * HyperSwap. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: z/OS HyperSwap may not trigger a freeze * * when MSGIEA494I is converted to an * * action message (*IEA494I). * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When MSGIEA494I is issued in response to a PPRC suspension event, and it has been converted to an action message, the z/OS HyperSwap message parser may not recognize the action indicator as part of the message id (*IEA494I).
Problem conclusion
Temporary fix
Comments
