Error description

  • A user attempts to compile a c program with the xlc compiler and
    gets a S306 RSN0C ABEND . This abend will occur for any
    EXTERNAL LINK module that resides in a non authorized MVS
    library (Not in the APF list)

    ANALYSIS:
    Customer attempts to compile a c program:

    xlc dan.c

    FSUM3224 xlc: Fatal error in /usr/lpp/cbclib/xlc/exe/ccndrvr:
    signal 9 received.

    KNOWN IMPACT:
    The abend terminates the work in progress.

    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    If the FSUM3224 was received, take the path name and verify that
    the file is an external link:

        ls -l /usr/lpp/cbclib/xlc/exe/ccndrvr
    erwxrwxrwx   1 AMINL    OMVSGRP        7 Dec  8  2015
               /usr/lpp/cbclib/xlc/exe/ccndrvr -> CCNDRVR

    The e in column one indicates that this is an external link and
    the CCNDRVR to the right of the arrow sign ( -> ) is the MVS
    program name that needs to be loaded and executed.

    Verify if the library, where the identified MVS program
    resides, is authorized. The problem shows-up if the library is
    NOT APF authorized.

    The JSCB pointed to by the TCBJSCB must also have the JSCBAUTH
    bit turned on.

    Issue the summary format and locate the RB that issued the LOAD
    SVC (SVC 8). Take note of the PSW and verify if BPXPRECP is the
    issuer:

    If the LOAD SVC was issued from the SynchAndLoad subroutine
    under the Loadit header, this APAR applies

Local fix

  • BYPASS/CIRCUMVENTION:
    Add the library, where the LOAD module pointed by the external
    link resides, to the APF list

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND306 RSN0C when external link load *
    *                      module is loaded from a non-APF         *
    *                      authorized library.                     *

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    ABENDS306 RSN0C in exec phase 2 processing (BPXPRECP)
    attempting to load an externally linked file from a library
    that is not APF authorized.

Problem conclusion

  • BPXPRECP will be changed so that it performs the load without
    APF authorization. This way, the load will be successful
    whether or not the program is in an APF-authorized library.
    After the load is complete, BPXPRECP will set its authorization
    to meet that of the loaded program.
