    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Prior to this enhancement, FSM *
    * required that the ML2 volume on which *

    * FSM. If the volume was found to be *
    * in use by another HSM function, the *
    * FSM would be failed and a standard *
    * migration to another ML2 tape would *
    *                      be performed.                           *
    *                                                              *
    * Each time a standard migration is *
    * done instead of an FSM with WORM ML2 *
    * media, space on the WORM tape is *
    *                      permanently lost. Allowing FSM's to     *
    * complete while an ML2 WORM tape is *
    * in-use will reduce this loss of *
    *                      tape space.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Prior to this enhancement, FSM
    required that the ML2 volume on which
    the data set had been last migrated
    not be in use during the time of the
    FSM. If the volume was found to be
    in use by another HSM function, the
    FSM would be failed and a standard
    migration to another ML2 tape would
    be performed.

    Each time a standard migration is
    done instead of an FSM with WORM ML2
    media, space on the WORM tape is
    permanently lost. Allowing FSM's to
    complete while an ML2 WORM tape is
    in-use will reduce this loss of
    tape space.

Comments

  • NOTE: This support is intended only for users that write
    DFSMShsm data to IBM WORM media via APAR OA07768.

    DFSMShsm has been modified to allow Fast Subsequent Migration
    (FSM) to in-use ML2 WORM tapes written by IBM D/T3592 or
    IBM TS7700 Virtualization Engine family D/T3957 devices when
    the following patch is enabled:

      PATCH .MCVT.+287 BITS(......1.)

    NOTE: The enabling PTF for this support must be installed
    on all systems that will have an HSM address space active in
    the HSMplex. The patch must be set exactly the same (ON of OFF)
    on all HSM hosts within the HSMplex.

    NOTE: This function will only work for ML2 tapes written after
    the support is installed.

    Documentation Update:

    The DFSMShsm Data Areas book will be updated to reflect the
