OA47522: ADR351E UNEXPECTED END OF FILE ERROR DURING LOGICAL RESTORE OF DATASET DUMPED FROM EAV OF A PHYSICAL SEQUENTIAL DATASET

Error description

• Customer has logical dump ( or DFSMShsm migration ) of a
  physical sequential dataset, source being on EAV volume in the
  extended address area.  Source dataset spans is allocated to at
  least two 21 cylinder extended address chunks of storage.
  
  During logical restore of the dataset ( or DFSMShsm hrecall ), a
  series of messages is issued such as those shown below are
  issued:
  
  ADR711I (001)-NEWDS(01), DATA SET xxxxx.yyyyy.zzzzz has been
                allocated using storclas sssss, dataclas ddddd and
                mgmtclas mmmmm
  
  ADR474I (001)-TDNVS(01), DATA SET xxxxx.yyyyy.zzzzz consists of
                630 target tracks and 316 source tracks
  ADR351E (001)-ZBLK (01), UNEXPECTED END OF FILE ON DDNAME
                sddname
  
  ADR480W (001)-TDLOG(01), THE FOLLOWING DATA SETS WERE NOT
                PROCESSED FROM THE LOGICALLY FORMATTED DUMP DUE TO
                ERRORS:   xxxxx.yyyyy.zzzzzz

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of DFSMSdss backing up nonVSAM data    *
  *                 sets using DATASET DUMP from an EAV.         *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A sequential data set in the EAS of an  *
  *                      EAV consisting of 316 used tracks was   *
  *                      backed up using logical data set DUMP   *
  *                      without specifying keywords ALLDATA(*)  *
  *                      ALLEXCP. An attempt to restore the data *
  *                      set results in ADR351E being issued.    *
  *                                                              *
  *                                                              *
  *                      The ADR351E is issued because the last  *
  *                      track of the data set is not backed up  *
  *                      during the logical data set dump, but   *
  *                      this only occurs when the amount of     *
  *                      space used is as described above.       *
  *                                                              *
  *                      Recovery:                               *
  *                      The data set may be recovered from an   *
  *                      existing physical dump containing the   *
  *                      problem data set.                       *
  *                                                              *
  *                      Additional Symptom:                     *
  *                      A sequential data set in the EAS of an  *
  *                      EAV consisting of 315 used tracks       *
  *                      was backed up using physical data set   *
  *                      DUMP. An attempt to restore the data    *
  *                      set results in ADR351E being issued.    *

Problem conclusion

• DFSMSdss has been modified to fix the reported problem.
  The problem could result in a data loss during logical data set
  DUMP.
