Error description

  • A Non-Standard JOBCLASS (not A-Z, 0-9, STC or TSU) may
    be treated as incompatible to a z/OS13 or lower member.

    EXTERNAL SYMPTOMS:
     When a Non Standard JOBCLASS exists in a mixed MAS,
    z/OS2.1 with a lower release, and a lower member is restarted
    you may see :
    $HASP720 WARM START DENIED - A multiple character job class or
             a job class group is currently defined. This release
             does not support job class groups and only supports
             single character batch job classes.

    This also corrects a scenario in which - when CKPT2 is not in
    use, $DCKPTSPACE display fails with
    $HASP003 RC=(28),D
    $HASP003 RC=(28),D CKPTSPACE CKPT2  - REQUIRED CONTROL BLOCK(S)
    $HASP003           NOT (YET) AVAILABLE

    MSGHASP720 MSG$HASP720 $HASP720
    --
    VERIFICATION STEPS:
    1/ Mixed MAS, z2.1 with a lower release
    2/ Non-standard JOBCLASS exists
    3/ Start JES2 fails on lower member with $HASP720
    4/ CKPT2 not in use and $DCKPTSPACE returns $HASP003 RC=(28)

Local fix

  • Remove non standard JOBCLASS

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Unable to warm start HJE7770 or HJE7780 *
    *                      after initializing HJE7790 with an      *
    * installation defined job class (defined *
    *                      prior to HJE7790).                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    A nonstandard job class (e.g. with a class name of x'E1') was
    defined in a MAS prior to installing HJE7790 (z/OS 2.1). When
    z/OS 2.1 was warm started, it saw this job class as one that
    was $ADDed by z/OS 2.1 and set an indicator that installation
    job classes are in use. This indicator prevents prior releases
    from warm starting.

    In fact, the nonstandard job class had been previously added
    by a vendor product that was no longer installed on the system.
    (If the vendor product had been installed, then its own product
    maintenance would have dealt with the problem.) This APAR
    is intended to resolve the problem when the vendor product is
    no longer installed.

Problem conclusion

  • TYPE/RESTART (HOT) IPL/REQUIRED (NO) CLPA (NO).

    In z/OS 1.12 and 1.13, code was added to ensure that any job
    class that is defined in the JESPLEX is marked as permanent.
    This is a new attribute that was originally defined only in
    z/OS 2.1 to indicate a class that was not $ADDed: The indicator
    had been set in z/OS 2.1 only for the standard job classes
    (A-Z, 0-9, STC and TSU).

    In z/OS 2.1, code was added to set the special case job class,
    x'E1', as permanent when JES2 is initializing. Code at
    initialization was also updated to ensure that other status
    bits in the CAT are properly set based on the job class type.

    ***************************************************************
    * To prevent the problem described by this APAR from *
    * occurring, IBM recommends that you start z/OS 1.12 JES2 or  *
    * z/OS 1.13 JES2, with this APAR installed, before running    *
    * z/OS 2.1 JES2 for the first time.                           *
    *                                                             *
    * If you experience the problem described by this APAR *
    * (a MSGHASP720 for multi-character job classes) when warm    *
    * starting a release prior to z/OS 2.1, then you must start *
    * z/OS 2.1 JES2 with this APAR installed to resolve the       *
    * problem. You will be unable to start a pre-z/OS 2.1 level *
    * of JES2, with or without this APAR installed, until *
    * z/OS 2.1 has corrected the status in the checkpoint. *
    ***************************************************************

    IPCS code was updated to find and format the CAT cache entries
    that are maintained starting in z/OS 2.1.
