Error description

  • IXLM2VTR calls lock manager to obtain the IXLSHELL lock. The
IXLSHELL lockword is in DREF storage. The lock manager page
faults on the lockword and since RSM requires locks to proceed,
lock manager recursion results. Lock manager can not be called
recursively; this may result in savearea corruption or other
unpredictable results. The lock is granted but on return the
saved registers are not those from the IXLM2VTR call so the
    abend0C4 occurs.

    Verification:
System trace table will show a page fault by a CS instruction at
IEAVELK +6E on a IXLSHELL lockword immediately before the
abend0c4 (eyecatcher VTHT will likely appear on the page).

ABEND0C4 in spin lock manager IEAVELK when a DREF page fault
must be resolved to update the lockword that serializes tracing
of the current vector operation (IXLM2VTR). Lockwords cannot
    reside in DREF storage.

Problem conclusion

  • In method ixlyvtht_Obtain(), change the subpool in which the
vector tracing lockwords reside from 247 (DREF) to 239 (fixed).
