Running "cleartool protectvob" on NAS fails with "File name too long" error

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to run the IBM Rational ClearCase command "cleartool protectvob" on a VOB store located on a NAS (Network Attached Store) device results in the error "File name too long".

Symptom

Example:

cleartool protectvob -add_group groupABC /net/foo-blablablabla.xyz.hhh.ttt.com/vol/clearcase_area/vobstore_abc/vob-1.vbs

This command affects the protection on your versioned object base.

While this command is running, access to the VOB will be limited.

If you have remote pools, you will have to run this command remotely.

cleartool: Error: Unable to access "/net/foo-blablablabla.xyz.hhh.ttt.com/vol/clearcase_area/vobstore_abc/vob-1.vbs": File name too long.

cleartool: Error: Trouble protecting versioned object base

"/net/foo-blablablabla.xyz.hhh.ttt.com/vol/clearcase_area/vobstore_abc/vob-1.vbs".
