Error description
Change QUERY LPARS to allow CP to query regardless of config token. Currently it will only display if a valid VM config token is found. Customer feels that this would be a useful function to have available. Currently, the following is displayed : q lpars No LPAR data is available

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All zVM users of the CP QUERY LPARS command. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF * **************************************************************** On a zVM system, if dynamic I/O capabilities are not enabled, then the Query LPARS command issues the following response: q lpars No LPAR data is available The customer would like to know the name of the partition where his system is running, so it has been requested to update the command to at least give that information when dynamic I/O capabilities are not enabled on the system.
Problem conclusion
The CP QUERY LPARS command processor (HCPZQYLP) was modified to issue a response that indicates the active partition when dynamic I/O capabilities are not enabled or supported on a system. Here is an example of the two new responses: query lpars No LPAR data is available. Active partition: ZVMLPAR1 Ready; query lpars This processor does not support dynamic I/O changes Active partition: ZVMLPAR1 Ready; ---------------------------------------------------------------- The following is a description of the publication hits for this APAR: **************************************************************** Publication Title: CP Commands and Utilities Reference Order Number SC24-6081-05 System + Release z/VM 5.3.0 **************************************************************** **************************************************************** QUERY LPARS command on pages 888-891 - Updated Usage Note 1 on page 888 - Updated Response 12 and added Response 13 on page 891 **************************************************************** Replace Usage note 1 on page 888 with the following: Usage Notes: 1. If your system runs on a processor that does not provide dynamic support, or if your system is not enabled for dynamic I/O capabilities, then this command will not complete successfully. However, it will issue a response that will indicate the name of the logical partition where your system is running. Replace Response 12 on page 891 with the following: Response 12 (No LPAR Data - Dynamic I/O not enabled) If your logical partition is not enabled for dynamic I/O changes, you would see: query lpars No LPAR data is available. Active partition: ZVMLPAR1 Ready; Add Response 13 on page 891: Response 13 (No LPAR Data - processor doesn't provide dynamic support) If your system runs on a processor that does not provide dynamic support, you would see: query lpars This processor does not support dynamic I/O changes Active partition: ZVMLPAR1 Ready; **************************************************************** Publication Title: CP Commands and Utilities Reference Order Number SC24-6081-06 System + Release z/VM 5.4.0 **************************************************************** **************************************************************** QUERY LPARS command on pages 897-900 - Updated Usage Note 1 on page 897 - Updated Response 12 and added Response 13 on page 900 **************************************************************** Replace Usage note 1 on page 897 with the following: Usage Notes: 1.
