APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • GDPS Heat Map Transfer (HMT) has multiple issues during GDPS
    initialization:
    * OMVS status cannot be correctly determined if there are no
HFS filesystems. This may cause HMTU actions to be attempted
    before OMVS is ACTIVE.
    * HMT group status may be set to the erroneous values UNKNOWN or
ERROR. This can also cause the "GEO443E GDPS Heat Map Transfer
connectivity error found for group <HMT group>" SDF alert being
    issued although connectivity is OK.
    * DASD mirroring or session status (GDPS flavor dependent) is
    not correctly checked.
All of the above issues may lead to the HMTU daemon for an HMT
group not being started when it should or started when it should
    not.

Local fix

  • 1. Run these commands in GDPS NetView (with GDPS debug on):
    a) VPCEEHMT *ALL INIT
    b) EXCMD AUTETHM VPCEESES RESTART *ALL
(Replace AUTETHM above with actual GEOETHM auto-operator name
as defined to in the current installation).
    2. Stop and then start the HMT group(s) from VPCPET01 HMT main
    panel.

Contact IBM support if these actions do not solve the problem.

Problem conclusion

  • The following changes has been made:
    * OMVS status is correctly determined.
    * The erroneous HMT group status values ERROR or UNKNOWN can no
    longer occur.
    * DASD mirroring or session status (GDPS flavor dependent) is
now checked during GDPS initialization to determine if the HMTU
daemon should be started for an HMT group.

    MULTIPLE SYSTEM CONSIDERATIONS
The PTF for this APAR must be installed on all controlling
systems in GDPS functions where GDPS Heat Map Transfer is used.
