  * New function APAR to further enhance                         *
  * the High Performance FICON for System Z                      *
  * (zHPF) facility.                                             *

  * z/OS uses a volume table of contents                         *
  * (VTOC) on each DASD to manage the                            *
  * storage and placement of data sets.                          *
  * CVAF is the z/OS component responsible                       *
  * for accessing the VTOC. Prior to this                        *
  * APAR, CVAF used a FICON channel program                      *
  * to read/write VTOC records. This could                       *
  * cause high channel utilization when the                      *
  * entire VTOC is read with sequential                          *
  * access.                                                      *

Problem conclusion

• Enhance the performance of VTOC I/O by CVAF and Fast VTOC/
  VVDS(FVV) by enabling zHPF. Enablement and disablement of
  the new function is managed by the DEVSUPxx member of
  PARMLIB or using the MODIFY DEVMAN command.
