OA53454: RECALLS BUILDING UP ON THE CRQ, ARC0208I TRAP FOR ERROR CODE 0404, MODULE ARCJCFLK, AND ARC1506E RC=08 REAS=0C08080A MESSAGES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Recalls build up on the CRQ and are not being processed.
  The cause is HSM failing to obtain a lock on the list structure.
  Several     ARC0208I TRAP FOR ERROR CODE 0404, MODULE
  ARCJCFLK, DEBUG ALWAYS DONE   messages are issued as well as
  ARC1506E RC=08 REAS=0C08080A   messages. The root caused is an
  HSM address space attempts to disconnect from the CRQ and
  attempts to finish processing some RECALLs .
  

Local fix

• Disconnect all HSMs from the CRQ, Delete the CRQ structure,
  restart the problem HSM address space, then reconnect
  to the CRQ which will rebuild the CRQ with out the orphaned SUR
  list entries.
  .
  To avoid getting into the situation for which
  this APAR was opened for, HOLD CRQ recalls on the
  system you plan to disconnect and wait for the
  processing to complete before issuing the
  disconnect.

  * CRQ and then reconnected again, recalls                      *
  * began building up on the SUR list for                        *
  * a particular ML2 tape. Multiple                              *
  * ARC0208I TRAP FOR ERROR CODE 0404,                           *
  * MODULE ARCJCFLK messages were received.                      *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  A very short timing window exists that allows a host to
  disconnect from CRQ prematurely, while it's own requests are
  still being processed locally.  That may eventually lead to
  recalls building up on the SUR list and not getting processed
  after the host reconnects to CRQ.
  

Problem conclusion

• DFSMShsm has been modified to resolve this problem.
