Error description

  • A user was unable to kill a process, even with SUPERKILL.
The address space also would not terminate via CANCEL. A FORCE
was required to terminate the address space.

    PROBLEM DETAILS:
A task was in a timed wait as part of a poll syscall.
BPXMIDIE posted this task (#Latch ECB) out of its wait, but the
task was hit with a S13E due to a SEC6-FF09 (SIGKILL) while in
IEAVEWAT. BPXLKKW recovery (BPXL9KW) processing got a new KSER
and issued a BPXXKTIM(CANCEL) to cancel the outstanding timer
pop. Since BPXXKTIM returned with Ktqe#Popped, we entered a
wait on the #Latch ECB in the new KSER for BPXMIDIE to post us.
However, since the old KSER was already posted by BPXMIDIE, this
    task remained waiting indefinitely.

Local fix

  • FORCE hung job out of system.

Problem conclusion

  • The solution is to move the cancel timer code to before possibly
    orphaning the KSER.
