Error description

  • After activation of zEDC HW compression for the SMF logsteam(s)
an  increase of CPU consumption for the SMF Asid, specifically
logstream writer TASK writer TASK(s) IFALSTCB  may be observed.

* use SMF recording to logstreams with zEDC                    *

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
* An increase in CPU usage may be seen                         *
* for the SMF address space when using                         *
* zEDC to compress SMF data                                    *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
For logstreams that are configured to receive zEDC compressed
data, additional CPU time may be consumed due to SMF Writer
task GETMAIN processing.

Problem conclusion

  • The SMF Writer task is modified to reduce the number of
GETMAINs required for its processing.
