Question & Answer
Question
What code page does Connect:Direct use for ASCII-to-EBCDIC or EBCDIC-to-ASCII translation?
Cause
Answer
The translate table shipped as part of Connect:Direct is based upon IBM Code Page 037 (USA/Canada), and it used the most common translations at the time the product was created. Few, if any, changes have been made to the product translation tables since they were created.
If characters other than those provided in the default product translation table are desired, a new translate table can be created. To create a new translate table copy a supplied table and modify as necessary. If the new table is to be used by all transfers it should be saved under the default name. If it is to be used for only some transfers a SYSOPTS parameter in the PROCESS can be set to point to the table for the specific transfers that need it. See instructions in Connect:Direct documentation for the particular platform or operating system in question.
Another option is to use the CODEPAGE keyword in the TO and FROM SYSOPTS in the process to utilize the desired codepage character translation.
