APAR Error Description / Circumvention

-----------------------------------------------
Print writers are ending abnormally with CPD338D when connected
to certain printers via a *LAN 3812 PJL device description.
Analysis shows the printer sending a FIN packet to close it's
side of the connection. The IBM i ACKs it, but then sends a PJL
UEL command to start sending another spooled file. The printer
doesn't like this and sends a RST packet which caused the
CPD338D to be issued and the writer to end.

The PTF for APAR SE66715 was applied to the system, yet the
problem still occurs on some systems.

CORRECTION FOR APAR SE68174 :
-----------------------------
The printer is closing the socket at the end of the spooled
file.  The iSeries PJL driver sends a UEL command to the printer
at the start of the next spooled file using the half-closed
socket and the printer sends a RST.  The error from the RST is
sometimes detected while sending the command, but sometimes it
does not bubble-up to the driver until the next packet is
attempted.

The PJL driver will now wait until that first command has been
received by the printer before it continues.  This should allow
the socket error to be detected while the driver can still close
the socket and start over with a new one.
