Troubleshooting
Problem
Long text string output wraps into multiple rows when more than 155 characters when output to Excel 2007. Rendering the same report in Excel 2002 does not wrap the column into separate rows.
Symptom
Data spans more than one row.
Cause
This was a designed behavior that helps make 2007 outputs more consistent in appearance to HTML/PDF output, but it can be disabled if desired.
Resolving The Problem
1. Login to IBM Cognos Administration.
2. Click on Configuration (Tab) -> 'Dispatcher and Services' .
3. Click on 'Set properties - Configuration' 
at the top right corner -> Settings (Tab) -> Click on Edit link next to Advanced Settings. Add the following parameters and Click on Ok.
RSVP.EXCEL.XLS2007_ALLOW_WRAPPING_SINGLE_CELL and set the value to TRUE
Make sure there is no trailing space in the parameter name or value or else you may not get the desired results.
4. Restart the Cognos Service for the changes to take effect.
NOTE: This functionality was added to the product and is not available in all releases. Please contact Customer Support if adding this advanced setting does not produce the desired change in Excel 2007 output.
For 8.4.1 (FP2):
Enter the above parameter to the ReportService and BatchReportService at the dispatcher level, and restart services.
1. Login to IBM Cognos Administration.
2. Click on Configuration (Tab) -> 'Dispatcher and Services' .
3. Expand the dispatcher(s) to reveal services
4. For "Batch Report Service" and "Report Service", click on 'Set Properties - Configuration'
-> Settings (Tab) -> Click on Edit link next to Advanced Settings. Add the following parameters and Click on Ok. RSVP.EXCEL.XLS2007_ALLOW_WRAPPING_SINGLE_CELL and set the value to TRUE
