HSM NodeID, Owner Node, Preferred Node configuration

Question & Answer

Question

When dsmmigfs q -d is issued what should the NodeID, Owner Node, Preferred Node be for each cluster node.

Cause

# dsmmigfs q -d (from Node2 in the cluster)
...
The local node has Node ID: 2
The failover environment is active on the local node.

Answer

The NodeID, Owner Node, Preferred Node settings are dependent on the node where the dsmmigfs is issued and whether a failover has occurred.

When there is a cluster of 2 nodes, lets assume they are node1 and node2 and node 1 is the owner.
Initial configuration should show:
Node1 Node2
Node ID 1 2
Preferred Node 1 1
Owner Node 1 1

If a failover has occured the 'dsmmigfs takeover' command would be issued to change the owner node to node 2
Node1 Node2
Node ID 1 2
Preferred Node 1 1
Owner Node 1 2
