Error 1324 occurred while installing IBM Rational Dashboard 4.0 on Microsoft Windows XP double bytes version

Problem

Attempts to install IBM Rational Dashboard 4.0 on Microsoft Windows XP for double bytes version (Chinese/Korean) results in the error "Error 1324. The folder path 'Fr_Unit?ppt' contains an invalid character".

Symptom

When you try to install IBM Rational Dashboard 4.0, during installation of Dashboard Portal, you may face the following error and installation will halt.

Cause

This issue was identified as a product defect and logged under APAR PK99359

If Microsoft Windows use double bytes languages such as Chinese and Korean for non-Unicode Programs in Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options > Advanced Tab, Microsoft Windows can not interpret an invalid file within IBM Rational Dashboard 4.0 Installer Image.

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows XP English version with double bytes languages for non-Unicode programs
  • Microsoft Windows XP Chinese version
  • Microsoft Windows XP Korean version

Resolving The Problem

This defect has been resolved in Rational Dashboard Fix Pack 1 (4.0.0.1) for 4.0.

Note: If attempting to install the Dashboard 4.0 version, do not use the current installer to install IBM Rational Dashboard 4.0 on Microsoft Windows XP for double bytes version (Chinese/Korean).
