Going from an integration scenario to install, deploy and troubleshoot the right set of products

Last time, I mentioned how IBM teams use scenarios as a tool to bake in integration in our products. Eventually (or as some of you might say, at long last ... ) though, a scenario gets implemented and released. Now, since it's integration we're talking about, it's not one product that's released, it's multiple products. And, it's not multiple products being released at once, it may be one new product now working with another product that's been out for 6 months or even two products from two different vendors. My point being that you'll find it very difficult to decipher what functionality was added where just from investigating one product's web site.

From a reliability,availability and serviceability or RAS standpoint, you'll want a scenario wide, cross product view of things rather than have to dive into each product's documentation and connect the dots by hand.
We are working on giving you this scenario wide view, starting with the cross product integration wiki. For example, for scenario "Service and Application Problem Diagnosis", the cross product wiki will list which products are involved ( and at which release version ), how these products should be deployed, how to install and configure these products and how to troubleshoot across products. And, since it's a wiki, we can collaborate and update the information as we learn more about the scenario.

We plan on publishing the same information for other scenarios as these get implemented. Watch this space !

You'll note two things when reading the cross product integration wiki :

•  The scenario is described differently from what's in the integration scenario wiki. This is because when we work on the integration scenario, we want to talk in terms on generic components interacting with each other. Whereas the cross product integration wiki describes how the scenario is implemented by actual products.
•  It's all IBM products in the cross product integration wiki. And you thought integration meant integration with anyone, including your or any other vendor's product ? But, you can do so and easily enough since underneath it all we are using Linked Data and OSLC. Read through the integration scenarios, see if there is one that is critical to your customers ( or propose a new one ) and let's see how we can make the integration happen.
