On the Start Database Monitor (STRDBMON) command and IBM i Navigator's SQL Performance Monitor dialog, users now have the option of having the monitor capture host variable values within the QQRID = 1000 record instead of the QQRID = 3010 record.

By using the Host Variable (HOSTVAR) - *CONDENSED option, the overhead of having database monitor active will be reduced.  There will be fewer I/O operations because no 3010 records will need to be written.  Consequently, there will also be a reduced CPU consumption related to database monitoring.

Host variable values are captured within QQDBCLOB1 column within the 1000 record for the statement to which they belong. The SQL performance monitor analysis tooling within IBM i Navigator is enhanced to consume any style (HOSTVAR = *BASIC, *CONDENSED, or *SECURE) monitor.

InfoSphere Guardium Database Activity Monitor i S-TAP for Db2 for i is enhanced to automatically use *CONDENSED host variable collection, thus lowering the CPU overhead of using Guardium to monitor database activities in a production environment.
