AIX cfgmgr (and other management utilities) can fail with TAMOS enabled

Problem

Attempts to run cfgmgr and/or other management utilties can fail on AIX systems with TAMOS enabled...

Symptom

Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgsys_chrp -l sys0 ):
0514-006 Cannot retrieve an object from the device
configuration database.
Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgiscsi -l iscsi0 ):
0514-006 Cannot retrieve an object from the device
configuration database.
cfgmgr: 0514-609 Unable to save the base customized information
on /dev/ipldevice.

Cause

resources (specifically virtual memory) allocated to the environment in which cfgmgr or other utility is being run are set to high...

Environment

AIX

Resolving The Problem

determine the LDR_CNTRL setting being used in the environment where cfgmgr/other utility is failing, and lower as needed... i.e. if current setting is:

LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x60000000

try resetting to:

LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x40000000

and retry the failing utility...
