Troubleshooting
Problem
Following an upgrade to WAS 8.5.5.13, DASH 3.1.3.2 and WebGUI 8.1.0.15 customers find that users are synchronizing to the ObjectServer only if they assign roles to the users directly.
If the roles are assigned through user groups however, the users are not synchronized.
When they assign ncw_* roles to groups, the groups are synched to OMNIbus, but remain empty. The ncw.*.log files show VMMSync finding the groups and transferring them across with no errors aside from
"Principal name is null for uniqueName".
Symptom
The user groups with ncw_* roles were transferred to the ObjectServer but any users assigned roles through those groups were not synchronized to the ObjectServer.
The ncw trace file had log entries similar to those below, showing that the Principal name (user Id) is missing. This value is required for user synchronization:
