HIPER APAR IT31268: UPGRADE TO FIXPACK 8.1.0.2 CAUSES CHANNELS TO TERMINATE UNEXPECTEDLY

Flashes (Alerts)

Abstract

Users may experience abends in MQ channel processes after installing fixpack MQ v8.1.0.2. These abends can occur in sender and receiver channel programs (runmqchl and amqrmppa) and in runmqsc when displaying saved channel status information using commands similar to "DISPLAY CHS(*) SAVED".

Interim fix IT31268 is available for download from IBM Fix Central.

Content

IBM MQ persists the channel synchronization states in an internal file called AMQRSYNA.DAT. Each queue manager has a dedicated instance of this file. Fix Pack 8.1.0.2 queue managers migrate this file from the OSS to the Guardian filesystem. This migration process might have failed on your system.

Users who have installed fixpack MQ 8.1.0.2 or are planning to upgrade to this fixpack level, must additionally install interim fix IT31268 to prevent serious problems caused by a failure during migration of the channel synchronization file.
Follow these steps if you are planning to upgrade to MQ 8.1.0.2 from any earlier fixpack level:
1.  Download iFix ifix_8.1.0.2_IT31268 before you proceed.
2.  Shutdown all queue managers in the affected MQ installation.
3.  Install FixPack MQ 8.1.0.2.
Do not start any queue managers until step 4 is completed.
4.  Install iFix ifix_8.1.0.2_IT31268.
5.  Run dspmqver and confirm that the Level reported is:
         IT31268_p800_L191217_201438
6.  Start your queue managers.
7.  If you experience problems with your channels run the MQ recreate object tool to recreate your channel sync file:
      rcrmqobj -m <QMGR> -t syncfile
Follow these steps if you have already installed fixpack MQ 8.1.0.2:
1.  Download iFix ifix_8.1.0.2_IT31268 before you proceed.
2.  Shutdown all queue managers in the affected MQ installation.
3.  Install iFix ifix_8.1.0.2_IT31268.
4.  Run dspmqver and confirm that the Level reported is:
     IT31268_p800_L191217_201438
5.  Source the mqprofile for the MQ installation:
      .  <MQinstall>/var/mqm/mqprofile
6.  Use the following OSS command to remove any AMQRSYNA.DAT files:
      rm $MQINST/var/mqm/qmgrs/*/@ipcc/AMQRSYNA.DAT
7.  Start your queue managers but do not start any channels
8.  For each queue manager run the MQ recreate object tool to recreate your channel sync file:
      rcrmqobj -m <QMGR> -t syncfile
9.  Start your channels.
