Abstract
Configuring the Maximo Enterprise Adapter for SAP Applications without SAP NetWeaver Process Integration
Body
In these austere times, every cent in the IT budget has to be justified with vigor and non-critical investment is rarely considered. The long-term savings and efficiencies of integrating asset management and financial systems have to be balanced against the short-term costs and cash-flow implications.
The Maximo Enterprise Adapter for SAP Applications enables you to
integrate Maximo Asset Management with SAP ERP. The standard
configuration uses SAP NetWeaver Process Integration as the
middleware component that manages the transactions between the two
systems. If you want to integrate the two systems but do not have the
budget to purchase the process integration component, you can
configure an alternative middleware component to perform process
integration.
Most application servers include modules that you can configure to enable integration with SAP Applications. Using one of these modules, you can configure the mapping and technical routing instructions for the integration. You then configure logical ports on SAP ERP and import function module definitions from SAP ERP into the middleware server.
With minimal configuration, you can configure real-time transactions to use Remote Function Calls (RFCs) to call the relevant function modules on SAP ERP. Or you can publish function modules as web services and use Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to call the relevant web services. You can also configure logical ports to send ABAP batch reports as web services from SAP ERP to Maximo Asset Management, using HTTP.
