What  is a Fleet in ACM  (Asset Configuration Manager) ?
A Fleet is a (dynamic) list of end-items (Aircraft, Engines, Rail Vehicles etc) that have some form of common association, e.g. all the assets may have the same operator or owner, or may all be of a particular Model or Variation.  The fleets that are created are then used in the Maximo ACM Fleet Usage Load application to facilitate the bulk data load of meters against a fleet of assets and, may also be used for reporting capability.

Use Case:
An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or an operator of a large fleet of assets, captures information from clients using their products; they have a range of Asset types which are defined as Models in Maximo ACM.  On a regular basis they receive information in a variety of formats that details the life usage (meters) of assets in the fleets operated by their clients.
 
It is very time consuming to enter this data as for each asset meter reading update the asset record must be found and the meter readings entered, saved and then repeat the process for the next asset – there may be many of these!  It would be much more efficient if the fleet for each of their clients was predefined and presented to the user as a single screen.  The meter readings could then be entered for each asset in the fleet by simply tabbing through each meter and entering the required readings.  When complete a single action writes the meter readings to the database.

 How to Create a Fleet:
Setting up the Fleet is a one-off task, once created the assets are dynamically added to the fleet based on their ACM 'Asset Attributes' - these attributes may change over time as the asset moves between operators, owners etc, as these changes occur the assets are dynamically moved between the relevant fleets at the date / time that the attribute changed. This dynamic fleet update enables all related reporting to be accurate based on which fleet the asset belonged to at the date / time that the report refers to.

Defining the Fleet:

Define the details required to create the Fleet, optionally these include the Model, Variation, Class and any number of Asset Attributes.

It is also possible to define default values for:
Fleet Utilization - this is the meter value over a specific period, e.g. 15 flight hours per day - this is used in the ACM Fleet Forecasting.
Default Fleet Meters: these are used in the Fleet Usage Load application so that when a new record is created the meter values are automatically populated.

 Evaluating the Fleet:
 
 Based on the definition of the Fleet the system will automatically identify which assets meet the Fleet criteria and details the assets on the 'Fleet Assets tab.

Using the Fleet in 'Fleet Usage Load:

One of the primary uses and benefits of the Fleet Management application is to be able to use the Fleet Definition to add meter values against all the assets in the Fleet in a single UI (the Fleet Usage Load), a bit like a simple spreadsheet.

 A new record for each load session details which assets belong to the Fleet at the date/time that is defined on the record.  The appropriate meters are displayed by default allowing the user to enter the meter values by tabbing between the cells.
 
When complete the record status is changed to 'active' and the meter values are written to the database.
