Resending a failed email

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Resending a failed email

Body

Have you ever spent valuable time sending an email only to find that your well-crafted email did not reach the intended recipient? Well now, if the intended email recipient fails to receive your email, you can track and resend the email. But, how do you know your email didn't reach the intended recipient? You can review the log statements that contain details of the error messages that are associated with your failed email.

In order to track failed emails, you must ensure that the communication template is enabled for tracking a failed email and specify the SEND_FAILED custom action in the Actions application. You can also associate the custom class SEND_FAILED with an escalation, to check how often an email fails to send and to resend a failed email based on a condition. So, why do some emails fail to send (in particular, the well-crafted ones), while others seamlessly wing their way to the intended recipient? Well, there can be many possible reasons. But, the most common reason is that the mail server rejects the email. A mail server rejects an email if, for example, an email address is invalid or if the service is interrupted when the sender is about to send the email.
