Abstract
"Don't you forget about me" ... Updating WebSphere 8 and IBM Installation Manager

When IBM introduced support for WebSphere 8 with Maximo 7.5.0.2 one of the benefits of supporting WebSphere 8 was the new installation process which is simpler and more efficient than the previous versions of WebSphere.
WebSphere 8 uses the IBM Installation Manager which has a built-in update mechanism to keep both the Installation Manager and any products installed by the Installation Manager (WebSphere 8 being one of them with others such as the IBM Data Studio client tool suite for DB2) up to date. If the system that you have the Installation Manager tool installed on has internet access checking for and obtaining both individual "hot fixes" as well as released "fix packs" are easily deployed using the Update mechanism for the IBM Installation Manager. This is a major improvement in the update mechanism compared to previous versions of WebSphere which required maintaining and deploying a separate "WebSphere Update Installer" and then identifying and downloading the fixes manually.
