Removing the system message dialog "More Information" link

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Removing the system message dialog "More Information" link

Body

You may have noticed that if you manually enter an incorrect value for a field that has a lookup then you will get an error message that tells you that the value is not valid.  In addition it has a link labelled "More Information" following the message.  For example if you entered an incorrect value in the work type field in Work Order Tracking you will see a message like this:

The "More Information" tries to link to a help topic but often there is no matching topic so it returns a blank page or "unable to connect" message.  The work around to remove the message is to go to System Configuration / Platform Configuration / Database Configuration and then click on "Messages" in the More Actions section. Then filter for BMXAA6985I under the Message ID column. Then open this message and you should see "More Information" as the value for this message.

Next change the value to "." (a period) and save the record. Then go back to an application and enter an invalid value in a field and take a look at the error message.  It will then look like this:

You can not totally remove the message value for this error message so the link to the help topic still exists (if you look really close) , but the link now is much less noticeable than before.
