Maximo Anywhere Push Notifications - Alert for Android devices due to Google GCM end of life.

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Maximo Anywhere Push Notifications - Alert for Android devices due to Google GCM end of life.

Body

Hi All,

It's been awhile since I've posted anything,  but I wanted to provide some information on Maximo Anywhere Push Notifications with Android devices where GCM is due to sunset on April 11, 2019.

The Problem

Maximo Anywhere uses Google Cloud Message(GCM) for Push Notifications. Google has recently announced the end of life of GCM as of April 11, 2019.  After this date, Maximo Anywhere Push Notifications on Android Devices will no longer operate using GCM.  Therefore, if you are utilizing Push Notifications you must apply fix updates to both Maximo Anywhere and MobileFirst in order to use Firebase Clooud Messaging Services for push notifications.

The Next Steps

The IBM Maximo team will shortly have detailed steps for you to take to enable Maximo Anywhere Push Notifications using FCM.  Be sure to subscribe to Maximo Anywhere Support Notifications here to receive this critical information immediately.
